Why do we keep debating EMV vs. performance? In 2024, it is so easy to add a performance component to an EMV campaign. You don't have to change the nature or goals of the campaign. But you can make sure that you are least getting 1-1.5x return in performance metrics. For every campaign. Example, run a top of funnel campaign with 10 macro-influencers. Without making this a performance focused campaign, we can make back the $100-500k in whitelisted ads, retention marketing campaigns, SEO, or affiliate via link in bio. You get all the magical upside of a top funnel campaign, with all of the direct ROI of a performance campaign. And it's even easier in the other direction (tracking EMV for performance campaigns). The point is, influencer marketers should not settle for campaigns that don't show measurable ROI. In the past few years of working with ecommerce clients I have learned something very important… Every ecommerce business should invest in mid- and top-funnel campaigns/marketing channels and not just in Paid Search and Shopping. Paid Search and Shopping are primarily demand capture campaign types. They excel at converting users who already want something. Users who are at the Bottom Of The Funnel (BOTF). If you don’t invest in other campaign types and marketing channels, then you’re trying to convert users who may have never heard of your brand/business before. And that’s the downside of running BOTF campaigns exclusively. If you compete with brands who HAVE invested in increasing awareness and interest through other campaign types or marketing channels, then you are at a disadvantage. Most users go with the familiar. A brand/business they've seen before and recognize. So your BOTF campaigns will have to work extra hard to convince those users to choose you and not the competition. So invest in brand awareness and demand creation. Use other marketing channels besides Google Ads: Organic search, Social media (both paid and organic), Influencer, Video, PR, Affiliates, etc. #ecommerce #googleads #ppc
