EOR or traditional employment: What's more cost-effective? Scaling your business in a new location with traditional hiring can be time-consuming and resource-intensive. In contrast, an Employer of Record (EOR) simplifies expanding or reducing your workforce across national markets. If your company needs to hire quickly or experiment with a market without long-term commitment, an EOR offers the flexibility to do so efficiently and compliantly. #BirdieHR #outdoors #hrsupport #nature #recreation #humanresources #managers #management #finance #PayrollManagement #compliance

The Impact of 2024 UK Budget Changes on Umbrella Companies for 2025 The UK Budget for 2024 has introduced several key changes that will impact contractors, freelancers, and umbrella companies in the upcoming year. As we look ahead to 2025, it's essential for those working through umbrella companies to understand the potential implications on their pay, taxes, and overall business operations. Here’s a breakdown of how the 2024 Budget changes could affect umbrella companies and the freelance sector. 1. Changes to National Insurance Contributions One of the most significant budget announcements was the freezing of National Insurance thresholds for the next few years. This means that many workers, including contractors using umbrella companies, will continue to face higher NICs than in previous years. The impact of this change could be felt particularly by those earning just above the current NIC thresholds, as they will see a larger proportion of their income taxed. For umbrella company workers, the higher NICs could reduce take-home pay, as employers will also face higher contributions. While some umbrella companies might attempt to absorb these costs, it’s likely that many will pass them onto contractors, reducing their net earnings. 2. IR35 Reforms and Enforcement Another important point of focus is the continuation of IR35 reforms, which are set to strengthen in 2025. The government has made it clear that tackling off-payroll working and tax avoidance remains a priority. For umbrella company workers, this means more scrutiny of their contracts and working arrangements to ensure they comply with IR35 rules. Although umbrella companies are typically seen as a solution to IR35, as they act as intermediaries for contractors, it’s crucial to ensure that the umbrella company is compliant with these rules. Non-compliance could result in back taxes or fines for both the contractor and the umbrella company, making it essential to choose a reputable provider. 3. Tax Relief and Allowances The 2024 Budget also announced a revision to tax reliefs, particularly for self-employed individuals. While these changes may not directly impact umbrella company workers, they could influence their decision to move between different working arrangements. Contractors considering moving to a limited company structure to maximise tax relief may find the changes in tax allowances a factor in their decision-making process. 4. Future of Umbrella Companies Looking ahead, we expect continued regulatory tightening around umbrella companies as the government seeks to ensure compliance and prevent abuse of the system. The rise of digital platforms and changes to tax legislation could also mean more streamlined, transparent umbrella company services, offering contractors a clearer understanding of their pay and deductions. While the 2024 Budget presents challenges for contractors using umbrella companies, staying informed and compliant will ease the transition into 2025.

🩺 The King's Speech stirred hope for a healthier UK – but will the necessary investments materialise? Months ago, the King's address set out bold promises: reduced NHS waiting times, enhanced mental health support, and a strong focus on preventive care. Yet, with £1.3 billion of tech funding now off the table, there seems to be a discrepancy between the lofty goals and the willingness to make the necessary investments in technology. While the Darzi Review highlighted how technology could transform healthcare, the lack of investment threatens to leave us stuck with outdated infrastructure. The dream of tech-driven, proactive healthcare is at risk, but it doesn't have to be. 🚀 It’s up to all of us—founders, innovators, and policymakers—to ensure that digital health and preventive care stay at the forefront of our national agenda. Thank you Startups Magazine for publishing my thoughts (rant) on this: https://lnkd.in/gc_-E8Xc #HealthTech #PreventiveCare #DarziReview #HealthcareInnovation #DigitalHealth

🤏 The Economic Squeeze on UK SMEs: Impact on Talent UK SMEs are facing exceptional challenges amidst the current economic downturn. Rising costs, interest rates, and uncertainty are forcing businesses to re-evaluate their operations, often leading to difficult decisions. One of the most immediate impacts is on talent acquisition and retention. Key Challenges: • Reduced hiring budgets: As businesses tighten their belts, hiring freezes and reduced headcounts are becoming commonplace. • Increased competition for talent: Many top candidates are seeking stability and security, making it harder for SMEs to compete with larger organisations. • Employee morale and retention: Economic uncertainty can lead to decreased employee morale and increased turnover, making it crucial to invest in employee well-being and engagement. ♟️Strategies for SMEs: • Prioritise talent development: Invest in existing employees to upskill and reskill them, reducing the need for external hires. • Offer competitive benefits and perks: Consider offering flexible work arrangements, competitive salaries, and employee benefits to attract and retain top talent. • Foster a strong company culture: Create a positive and supportive work environment that employees value. • Leverage technology: Utilise HR technology to streamline recruitment processes and improve employee engagement. How are you and your business addressing these challenges? Let's share ideas and support each other during this difficult time. #UKSMEs #EconomicCrisis #TalentAcquisition #Retention #BusinessSupport #HR #SmallBusiness #BusinessAdvice #PivotPro
