Case in point: I recently discovered the brand Midnight Lunch from a creator I follow. It's a small boutique based out of Jackson Hole, Wyoming, and I'm not sure if I ever would have stumbled upon it in any other context.
If I trust your taste, I want to know your recs.
But taste is a pretty elusive concept, right? (And no, sadly, I'm not talking about the absolute banger of a Sabrina Carpenter song.)
Taste means something different to everyone. And that is part of the magic of the communities that creators build. They're able to bring together audiences that identify with their highly unique tastes and—here's the key part—trust their opinions.
Trust is one of the hardest virtues to build at scale, and in my opinion it goes hand in hand with taste. Anyone who has ever tried to market or sell something knows this. The underlying question beneath every sales pitch is: why should I believe you?
Today's brands and advertisers know this, and that's why the creator economy has become so powerful and multifaceted in 2025. Creators are the new mini media empires, and a creator's word holds power with their audience. This isn't a trivial thing to achieve.
This is all to say that I don't mind being influenced. Take my money! And take my admiration, too, for building something that cuts through the noise of today's digital chaos and got me to trust you and take an action.
