When we launched Generation Future, we couldn’t have imagined how many of our members would share their visions of a better future. To keep the momentum going, we’re extending the application deadline until July 31st so that more movers and shakers like you, can submit their futuristic plans to make an impact on their communities.

We want to hear about your vision, what you’re already doing to make it a reality, and how a $5,000 grant could lift it to new heights 🚀 Start your application here! Selected applications will be put to a peer vote, and the winner will join us at our 30th anniversary celebration in New York City on November 16th!

It’s time to get inspired!

We are seeing great submissions that are shining bright. Members are showing us how they provide educational resources to students in middle and high schools - even helping to combat food insecurity by organizing food drives in partnership with local non-profits.

So, if you haven’t jumped on the opportunity to be part of Generation Future, there’s still time!

Speaking of movers and shakers… Tomorrow (July 12th) is Malala Day, a global celebration of Malala Yousafzai, who began her advocacy and activism when she was 11. She’s a Nobel Peace Prize recipient best known for her work supporting girls’ education despite facing violence and oppression in Pakistan. She’s a 🔥example of someone who has stood by her cause against all odds and continues to inspire the next generation of changemakers.

We’ve had freedom on our minds lately, and you all have given us even more to think about by contributing to our program Notes on Freedom.

“This note is for my large Chinese family who was often judged by others.” said 15 year-old DoSomething member Amanda Y. “Reflecting on freedom is important to me because freedom should not be earned, it should be a basic human right. This is for my family because my brother should never have to be judged for his school lunch all because it looks and smells different. My loved ones should be able to walk on the streets without being called 'Covid starters' or 'dog eaters'. My sister should not be made fun of for speaking a different language or mocked for stereotypically things such as having small eyes. These should never happen to anyone no matter the race.”

DoSomething member Danielle K., 20 said, “My note is for my class. Freedom is my ability to wake up everyday and go to work. Working at a wonderful daycare where everytime I enter my class I am greeted with the happy smiling faces of my students. Freedom is knowing that because of all the hard work of those who came before me, I am able to be where I am today and educate the youth of tomorrow. To teach them to love themselves and those around them no matter their skin color or their gender. My freedom is important to me because without it my class would not have a young, passionate, African American teacher who shows them nothing but love everytime they go to school.”
