DoSomething member Kalina W. 17, said "I came to appreciate my body in a new way due to creating this work of art. My skin gained new significance when I altered its hue to reflect how light bounced off it. Drawing each unique curve made it easier to see that there is still more of me to adore and that I am not too much. My physique was never considered good enough in the past, whether it was because I wasn't skinny enough or curvy enough. The people I surrounded myself with did not help me break that mindset as well. I decided that I wanted to grow and learn to accept my body, one way I did this was through creating art. After viewing myself in a different light, I had fresh perspectives and additional questions. This art piece helped me grow closer with myself."

"I have extreme anxiety and have a tendency to pick at my hands and arms if I’m not doing something with my hands and a bit of my mind. This is one of my most recent projects, crocheting betta fish so my hands stay occupied," said DoSomething member Kyla E., 18 "I created the pattern myself and give the finished fish to my friends as thank you presents or just because. These have helped me keep myself from picking at my hands and arms and make me less anxious when I have nothing to do."
Snuggle into a corner with a PSL (pumpkin spice latte) and get started on your creative pathway to better mental health. |
