We wanted to hear from our members about their take on today’s conversation around mental health
Many of you are making strides toward changing the culture around opening up about mental health, and we appreciate your contributions to our DoSomething community:
Nadia M., 18: “Supporting people around me with their mental health is important to me because I want everyone around me to know that they have someone they can talk to when they need help even if it is not me I am always sharing information and sources about who they can go to or what they can do about it. I think that mental health is as important as physical health. I grew up in a household with little to no information about mental health so I have made my goal to share and help other people with their mental health journey that is why my major is psychology.”
Anisha S., 17: “I believe that by helping others on their mental health journey, I'm also helping myself. I can't be okay if those around me aren't okay. I want people to feel less lonely and more happy and if I can contribute to that somehow, whether by sharing resources or actively listening to them because I know what it's like to feel unheard, I'll feel really useful. Like I'm fulfilling my purpose somehow.”
Miguel C., 16: “I have seen many people in my life being affected by not being able to identify or express their emotions, and sometimes not asking for help. I constantly do small projects that can help people with their mental health, even if it's just making them smile for a second. But I believe addressing mental health is something essential for everyone to be happy on a daily basis.”
We’re feeling the community support all the way from over here. It’s awesome to hear about how you’re all taking charge of your mental health and helping others do the same.
