You feel that? That’s the feeling of yesterday’s Juneteenth celebrations lighting your fire for justice and freedom 🔥 We feel it too, and most of all, we’re ready to chat about how young people are fed up with inequality as the status quo. Yesterday’s celebration was a reminder of how far we’ve come but also amplified how far we have to go. Pair that with our ongoing Pride celebrations, and we’re not backing down in the fight for justice!
Before we jump in, we want to acknowledge the shootings in Illinois, Washington, Pennsylvania, Missouri, Wisconsin, and North Carolina over Juneteenth weekend. During this time of celebration, we are saddened by these acts of violence and want to elevate our mental health resources.
This moment is the perfect time to reflect on our own identities and show some major love and support for our Black LGBTQIA+ peers. Both Pride and Juneteenth honor the rich history of resilience, activism, and progress, while also acknowledging the ongoing struggle for equality faced by Black LGBTQIA+ individuals. It’s on all of us to unite in solidarity and advocate for change. We’re in total awe of these LGBTQIA+ organizations who are focusing on BIPOC youth and creating space for all voices to be heard and values. Three cheers for real, systemic change.
Those are just a few of the MANY organizations that we’re rooting for. So, what are you waiting for? Let’s get our intersectional activism ON! Let’s Do This! DoSomething |

We asked you to harness the power of creativity to reflect upon what freedom means to you, and your responses were EPIC. |
DoSomething member Vayda B., 17 said, “My note is for those who find themselves comparing themselves to others in society and having them take advantage of their freedom. There is a purpose in each of us being different, freedom is designed to allow us to be the best version of ourselves with no limitations.” |
“This note is for many people who struggle to let people share their beliefs, said DoSomething member Addision F., 17. “Freedom is equality of all races and genders–no matter what their beliefs are, whether they are on the left or right side. Also, always be kind to one another!” |
“The note is for anyone who might need a reminder to be grateful for the freedoms we have because they can often be forgotten. Reflecting on freedom is important to me because it reminds me to be grateful for everything I have because not everyone shares the same freedoms,” said DoSomething member Marlo C., 17. One year ago this week… Was the historic Supreme Court decision to overturn Roe v. Wade. VP Kamala Harris is set to deliver a speech on Friday, so stay tuned!
DS in the news… Our very own Director of Marketing Valeria Villarroel wrote this 🔥 piece on Pride allyship for Teen Vogue!
Our heroes today are… the founders of LGBTQ+ brand, Ash & Chess. After their merch was pulled from Target, they set out to make some noise and raised $20k for trans youth in the process. Ok, queens! ICYMI… Social media and mental health CAN coexist, and a new org called Koko just made it more possible by providing free digital interventions on the social platforms they use every day!
