Hey, DoSomething members:
April is National Volunteer Month, and we’re stoked to be your go-to-spot for volunteer opportunities. When DoSomething launched 30 years ago, we were on a mission to make volunteering as cool as sports. Since then, thousands (nay, millions!) of our members have experienced the benefits of volunteering. We’ve helped young people like you view yourself as the Michael Jordan of volunteering–proving that it’s not something to dread, but rather a fun activity that offers people the opportunity to match up their purpose with their passions!
We know that young people are fired up about making long-lasting changes in their communities, and we applaud Gen Z for being the most socially aware generation so far. Volunteers are needed in every corner of social change, from helping senior citizens during lockdowns to rescue efforts post-earthquake in Turkey. Since 2020, here are some of the lasting impacts our members have made:
- Donated 455,660 Pieces of Clothing, dressing 227,660 of those in vulnerable populations.
- Collected and Donated over 616,916 Period Products, providing 88,131 people who menstruate, one week of period products.
-
Cleaned up 766,906 Cigarette Butts off the streets, removing over 338 pounds of toxic chemicals that contaminate water, and poison fish and animals who eat them accidentally.
We don’t always see the impact of volunteering right away, but our efforts stack up to incredible heights. To celebrate National Volunteer Month, we’ll be pumping out all kinds of action-packed goodies, so stay tuned for some sweet articles and volunteer opportunities!
