Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced a halt on “any” construction of EPIC City, a proposed 400-acre Muslim-only community outside of Dallas governed by Sharia Law, and announced “about a half dozen investigations” into the project. But is there really a way to oppose this sort of thing without throwing out the concept of intentional communities and charter cities altogether? Or running afoul of the First Amendment? Come on, folks, it’s time to be honest. Our problem is not a bunch of Islamists planning a medieval Disneyland. Our problem — or, this problem (we’ve got a bunch) — is a growing Islamisist presence in America, which is not only disinterested in integration, but contemptuous of the concept. Sorry, halting construction on a city that otherwise probably never would have opened is not going to save the country. For that, we’ll have to actually stop letting people move here who hate our way of life.

The United States should immediately expand our base on Guantanamo Bay into Liberty City, an American Singapore of the Caribbean. We already control Guantanamo under a perpetual lease, complete with a deepwater port, airfields, and proximity to key trade routes. Why not turn it into a special economic zone? Imagine a gilded megafortress broadcasting capitalism's bounty on the coast of a failing communist state. Shipbuilding, energy refining, near-equator space launches, luxury tourism. Any Cuban who makes it there — by foot, boat, or bike — gets asylum and a work permit. Like West Berlin to the Soviets, Liberty City would be both a boomtown and a weapon: a tropical brain-drain machine that accelerates regime collapse in Havana. The treaty limits “commercial enterprise” to direct support of naval or coaling operations, but who’s enforcing it? Cuba already disavows the lease. Let them shake their fists up at a wall of battlefield-grade Sentry Towers beneath a sky full of Starships.

Is all of this legal? Who knows / since when has that question ever stopped EOs from being introduced? The more important question is how Trump’s critics will spin this as a bad thing. Go ahead, sympathizers of healthcare CEO assassins: tell me why lowering the cost of insulin is terrible.
