Grateful for consequences |
Trump threatened a handful of new tariffs this week, which the NY Times characterized as chaotic, destructive, and grossly unfair for our good friends abroad: first, a fresh 25% tariff on Mexico and Canada for as long as each country refuses to stem the wave of illegal migrants flooding our borders, and then another 10% tariff on China — on top of every other tariff we’ll be shoving down China’s fat face — for as long as they keep shipping fentanyl into our country. In analysis, the Times dedicated 15 paragraphs to the insanity of the punitive measures before casually acknowledging Trump’s threat immediately catalyzed a productive conversation with Justin Trudeau on border security. And as of this morning, Mexico’s socialist queen wants to play ball. Odd, it’s almost as if the author of “Art of the Deal” is… negotiating. Anyway, stay mad I guess. I feel great — and grateful. Now, onto the turkey.

Academia takes a shot at DEI |
A recent Rutgers University study had subjects read either Ibram X. Kendi quotes or benign passages about corn, then judge a race-neutral scenario, and found that — lo and behold — Kendi readers were more likely than corn readers to think the scenario was due to racism. While the researchers concluded this proved DEI training is “counterproductive,” and critics pointed out it simply demonstrated priming (when one experience influences your next reaction), the paper nevertheless does two notable things: (1) reflects the reasonable, widespread belief that identity politics has been one of the most regressive projects in Western history, and (2) suggests academics realize gaslighting everyone on the virtues of obsessing over skin color backfired, and are now looking for a way out of the DEI torture chamber they created. Are college campuses returning to sanity? Unclear, but anything that humiliates malignant race
grifters like Kendi is definitely a step in the right direction.

Last week, amid a flurry of op-eds about skipping Thanksgiving with relatives who voted for Trump — and after The View paused their McCarthyist “dragon believer” witch hunts to suggest viewers do the same — Newsweek spotlighted multiple women pledging to boycott the holiday. One TikToker stated (of the family she was herself abandoning): “It’s sad not knowing if I’ll ever get my family back.” And I agree, that might be sad… if these people weren’t all lying. According to AAA, Thanksgiving travel is expected to “set new records” this year, which suggests this is less of a broad “boycott” than a *gasp* ploy for attention. Folks: stop throwing Grandpa under the bus for clout. We’re checking IP Addresses this year — if yours pops up at his house tomorrow, we’re playing your TikTok at the dinner table so you can look him in the face as he watches you call him racist for 200 likes.
Happy Thanksgiving!
