The Trump veepstakes are over: yesterday, the former president announced Ohio Senator J.D. Vance will be his 2024 running mate. But while most media outlets are publishing stories covering Vance’s never-Trump past or his Silicon Valley roots, they’re missing the big story. Trump just dealt one of his most decisive blows to-date against the conservative establishment. Politico reports that Don Jr, as part of an internal push for Vance, showed his father a Breitbart article last week titled “Karl Rove endorses Doug Burgum for vice president,” as a sort of anti-pitch for the more mainstream contender. Now, Trump’s joined by another man with more enemies in Washington than friends, a natural base of support in the working class, and a view that “America First” doesn’t mean fighting a half-dozen proxy wars at once. Bad news for Biden, but it’s game over for Bush’s GOP.

WaPo: trust no one (but me) |
Yesterday, WaPo published a guide to “avoid falling for misinformation and conspiracy theories.” Presumably relevant to the assassination attempt on Trump, the guide advises readers to never trust friends and family (“If it’s from friends or family members, don’t trust the posts”) and never do your own research (“Legitimate mainstream news organizations are built to vet these things for you”). All of this is deeply stupid, but at this point I’m honestly not even mad. I just want to help these people before they permanently end the institution of our free press. Guys, telling people they and everyone they know are too stupid to form an opinion, and that only you can be trusted to do this for them, doesn’t actually make them trust you. It just reminds them you’re a manipulative, narcissistic, controlling ex-boyfriend type of crazy person. Step one to saving your jobs: stop reminding them of
this.

Friday, the EU decreed X violated their new “large platform” rules, which could result in a crippling fine — as much as 6% of the company’s global revenue. The lifelong joyless bureaucrats responsible for the attack have several grievances with Elon, but mainly they’re mad about X’s new (two year old?) blue check policy, which no longer favors state-friendly journalists, famous actors from the 90s, and literal foreign dictators over regular ass people who’ve proven they’re human. While the attack notably constitutes another opportunity for Europe, welfare queen of the western world, to steal more money from America, I do think this one’s mostly about power. Namely, they want it. More, they genuinely think it belongs to them. And are we really surprised? A wealthy American hands a powerful resource to a foreign paper pusher in exchange for absolutely nothing, to which he now feels entitled? Sounds about
European. Anyway, bring on the crippling Belgian tariffs.

Indistinguishable From the Real Thing |
If you’ve been reading our articles online recently, you’ll have noticed we now offer AI-assisted narration of our articles. For a year, we (the PW staff) have been trying to get Solana to clone his voice for this purpose, and until earlier this year the tech was never quite “there” enough to get him to accept. But everything changed with ElevenLab’s Professional Voice cloning, which is nearly indistinguishable from the real man — and our audio producer would also add that it requires fewer do-overs (I’m getting fired for this). This is just one application of ElevenLab’s tech: you can use their dubbing studio, voice isolator, or sound effect generator to create audio products at enterprise scale, or
for your own creative video, podcast, or audiobook.
