It was frankly a bloodbath |
Last night, more than 100 million Americans watched CNN’s Biden-Trump debate, the first of two this year (but… we’ll see?), and our first good look at Biden since his State of the Union. While highly controversial from the start on account of rules apparently designed to hamstring Trump, Trump excelled in the new format, as of course he would, because he’s a savant level entertainer. Biden, on the other hand… holy fucking shit. He repeatedly seemed to forget where he was. He could not form coherent thoughts. He stalled. He looked sick, and frail. This was — unambiguously — an historic disaster. The question now is why the DNC would allow this man on stage, and I think it can’t be a mistake. Either they’re inconceivably out of touch, or they want Biden out. My sense is the latter, but either way his odds of a second term have never been lower. We just watched history unfold.

Despite climate change predictions, scientists just determined the Maldives — an island nation of 26 atolls — are not only still above water, but have actually gotten bigger. How were the gold standard climate models' thousands of inputs and numerous submodels (themselves with hundreds of parameters) so wrong? I'm not denying the planet's warming, which is a challenge deserving our best efforts, but at this point it’s pretty obvious that climate change dystopia is mostly just an eschatology for unhappy people (progressives) who need it to resolve the cognitive dissonance between their grim worldview and reality (by 2021, climate-related deaths were at an all-time low (thank you, technology)). An inconvenient truth for the inconvenient truthers: the majority of climate change's most worrying predictions that should have come true by now simply haven't. And if you find this news a little bit uncomfortable, or even depressing? Friend, you’re
probably in a cult.

Biotech startup Ovax Inc has raised $10 million to develop a so-called ‘Fentanyl Vaccine’ — a product which, if successful, will not only prevent people who ingest the powerful opiate from overdosing, but from feeling its effects. “The science is there,” said co-founder JR Rahn, adding “it just takes someone to be persistent.” Obviously, this is great news for addicts. But — and I’m not saying this applies to me — it’s also great for casual cocaine users. Now, I know what you’re thinking, ‘Riley, that’s awful, drugs are bad!’ And sure, yes, I agree. Drugs are terrible. We do NOT endorse drugs. But, look, zoomers aren’t having sex, and our population is plummeting. While the coke-fueled 1980s had a lot of problems (crack, weird hair, the persistent threat of nuclear war) a lack of teenage boning wasn’t one of them. I don’t know. Just something to consider, I guess. Have a great Fourth!

NOTE! Pirate Wires will be off next week for the Fourth. We have three fire features lined up, which will still be hitting your inboxes (check your newsletter tabs and make sure you’re subscribed to Dolores Park, the Industry, and Solana’s list so that you receive them), but the pod and the Daily both return week after next. Happy birthday to the greatest country in the history of the world, America, which truly is the best (and is especially better than Europe), God bless.
