Done squeezing their own people to death, they’d now like to tax Americans, then redistribute our money globally. Lmao get lost, welfare queens. Consider working longer than 6 hours a week before crying about how evil (cool) Jeff Bezos is. To the Biden administration’s credit, Yellen said no. But imo she shouldn’t completely shut the door on this conversation. If Brazil wants our cash, I’d happily consider their rainforests in exchange. OpenAI is “working to pause the use of Sky,” the AI girlfriend voice in GPT-4o, after Scarlett Johansson threatened to sue the company. Last year, she said in a statement, Altman had approached her about a partnership to use her voice, which she declined. When 4o dropped last week, she was “shocked, angered, and in disbelief” that Sky sounded so similar to her (even her friends agree!) and now plans to advocate for legislation to “protect individual rights.” On the one hand, it’s bizarre that ScarJo seems to think she can patent a generic, computer-generated white woman voice, but on the other…a day before the model’s release, Sama did tweet “her.” Honestly, whatever. Both sides messed up (Scarlett fumbled the bag, and OpenAI lost the news cycle), but fortunately there’s a third group that as of now is absolutely winning the AI war: attorneys.

Last week, after Biden abandoned the fall debates and circumvented the Commission on Presidential Debates entirely, America was presented with a question of norms. Namely, what are they at this point, and has anything Biden done over the last four years constituted their “return,” which he promised in 2020? This is something we might have seen parsed in the traditional NYT interview, but that decades-long convention was also canceled. Biden has held the fewest pressers since Reagan, his son is facing felony gun charges, and he just last week interfered with his own classified document case. He is at least waging proxy wars on two separate continents we shouldn’t be involved in, which does feel like a time-honored American tradition. But altogether I’d say “norms” are canceled. The good news? Americans are finally remembering they never existed, and just want the economy to work. Now, with any luck, that’s what we’ll be talking about rather than mean tweets.
