With news of Trump’s closest allies drawing up a legal framework for an “historic deportation operation,” the first truly explosive issue of the 2024 presidential race has arrived. With something in the range of 10 million new migrants in the country since Biden took office, almost all of them illegitimate asylum seekers exploiting a loophole the government refuses to close, the natural question of what should be done with illegal immigrants has once again been raised. But the left-wing position on the subject has dramatically evolved since the Obama-era deportations. Today, for Biden’s base, anything less than “asylum” for all 8 billion people on the planet is a “human rights violation,” while Trump’s base considers the correct number of immigrants to be 0. Congratulations, everyone, we found the explosive wedge issue of the election, which will, when the dust clears, almost certainly decide our next president.

A WSJ report shows America’s schools embarked on significant grade inflation at the start of the pandemic, and GPAs haven’t gone down since. Troublingly, ACT scores are dipping at the same time, a symptom some teachers are attributing to “equitable grading,” or policies such as prohibiting penalties for late work, setting a minimum grade of 50%, or allowing test retakes (but not if the student scored above 80%). Proponents of the idiot awards say this is a “mastery-based” framework, arguing late, missing, or low-quality work are mere details that obscure a student’s ‘true progress.’ But in just a few more years this pandemic-era cohort of students will enter the workforce, and corporate America will be left to pick up the pieces. A small consolation for our business leaders: Zayden may not show up to work, but by then we’ll (hopefully) have a ‘Zaybot’ AI model to do all of the work he was going to half-ass anyways.
