This means the average journalist is now somehow even less aware of national sentiment, and our broader global reality, than even the average politician — something I did not think possible. Unfortunately, this means negative Bezos yacht coverage will continue until morale improves. But at least the most self-loathing profession in the country appears, by the day, less relevant. So build on, monopoly brothers, and for as long as you can. America deserves another Gilded Age.

Wednesday, New York’s highest court ruled 4-3 to overturn Harvey Weinstein’s 2020 felony sex crime conviction, citing “impermissible” procedural errors in the original trial. The ruling doesn’t mean Weinstein will walk free — he was sentenced to 16 years in prison in California back in 2022 for rape — but, symbolically, it’s a stunning reversal of the case that birthed #MeToo. The movement’s supporters have called the decision “shocking and disheartening,” though in many ways it’s of their own making. These are the consequences of re-evaluating, in the cold light of day, decisions made in a world where due process was suspended and trial by public opinion reigned supreme. The moral? In a functioning judicial system, cutting procedural corners benefits no one — except fee-collecting lawyers.

A report in Rest of World details the struggles TSMC is grappling with as the company builds its first U.S.-based chip fab in Arizona. Not only has a language barrier proven difficult to navigate for such a highly technical operation, the cultural barrier has proven near intractable. While the firm’s American workers are forced, for the first time in their lives, to contend with a management uninterested in the concept of “work-life balance,” Taiwanese workers are shocked to discover they can’t hang bikini-model calendars in the workplace. But for America more generally, this cultural exchange presents significant opportunity. TSMC should fight to keep its insane hours and HR-unapproved wall art, and Americans should learn to take workplace insults like men. The industrial base that turned America into a world power was built in exactly this way. We must return.
