It’s been four years since the emergence of Covid triggered a global information war, largely fought online, in which an alliance of “trust the science” journalists, government officials, and social media execs went to holy war with a few public “radicals,” and a seething mass of based Greek statues. In that time, consensus opinion on every side of almost every issue related to the virus shifted, sometimes more than once, and today? A new study indicates Paxlovid straight up doesn’t work, which somehow everyone, from every political extreme, believes proves that they were right. The truth is I don’t think much about Covid anymore. Our information ecosystem is so polarized, irrational, and loud I’ve become skeptical of every story related to the topic: a kind of information shock, which is a new phenomenon. The Seattle Public School District plans to shutter 11 schools for gifted students by the 2027-28 school year because too many of the students are white or Asian. It will begin integrating gifted students into neighborhood classrooms in the fall, in order to address “historical inequality.” The gifted program was also 13% “multiracial.” It’s a diverse program – for Seattle, anyway – it's just that black and Hispanic students were proportionally underrepresented. I have a feeling there may not be enough straight boys in the high-school drama club. Shut every program down. Shut the school down. End all formal education in Seattle. For equity's sake.
