In France, hate crimes targeting gay men have skyrocketed since 2016, increasing anywhere from 13% to 16% a year. Why? How? Both great questions. But as the panicked news cycle broke, a quick keyword search of the words “Islam,” “Muslim,” and “immigrant” strangely turned up zero results. Once again, we find the average good guy western man demanding solutions to a problem he refuses to name: immigration from violent, backwards cultures, in such enormous quantities as we’ve seen across the western world, has begun to change the western world. Here at home, a sensible immigration policy (small amounts, only the smartest) would benefit the country. But it’s important to keep in mind nobody’s moving here because they love our culture. People only move here for our economy, there are billions more who want to come, and a policy of open borders will not Americanize the third world. It will however break America.

Earlier this week the government announced the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is investigating Waymo for 22 incidents in which the company’s self-driving taxis were “the sole vehicle operated during a collision” or that “violated traffic safety laws.” And sure, whatever, great, the robotaxis should be safe. I’m always open to a little diligence. But we’re really suffering from a shocking lack of perspective here. Some of the most recent U.S. driving data puts humans at over 100 collisions per million miles. Meanwhile, during its fleet’s first million driverless miles, Waymo reported just two collisions, both of which were caused
by people. If the NHTSA’s investigation ultimately manifests in a ban recommendation, should it really be for robot drivers, or should it be for humans?

The DNC, brought to you by Zoom |
High-ranking Democrats are reportedly growing concerned that their upcoming August convention in Chicago will become the site of widespread pro-Palestine protests, leading to violence and unrest and stealing all the weekend headlines in a manner not too dissimilar from their 1968 convention (also in Chicago, also drowned out by anti-war protestors). But this time around the DNC has a card to play it didn't have in '68: the ability to hold at least part of the convention virtually. This was last done in 2020, smack in the middle of the Covid pandemic, and many in Biden’s orbit are now urging another digital retreat. Is it really worth it though? While the tactic might avoid uncomfortable headlines, treating the people you desperately need to not vote third party like they're a respiratory disease made in a Wuhan lab is probably not the most persuasive tactic.

Inappropriate images are free speech |
On November 3, 2023, Western Washington University suspended its racing team for “inappropriate images on whiteboards and otherwise,” citing a Snapchat photo they saw of a penis drawing on a pizza box in their lab space. They warned the team that such images are “not funny in the least” (not entirely true) and added that it constituted “a symbol of white, male power and domination” (also not entirely true). This is when FIRE (the Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression) stepped in and sent them a letter explaining that such expression, while crude, “may not form the basis of any university punishment.” The case is ongoing, but if FIRE’s track record is any indication, this university overreach will be corrected. So if you
appreciate knights-errant that defend Americans’ constitutional rights at no cost, consider making a small donation to help FIRE continue their work.
