5 sales use cases for AI voice agents
AI voice agents work well if you use them at the right points in your sales motion.
I don’t envision a world where AI voice agents handle every deal from discovery to closed-won, but I already see them collapsing the time it takes to get a deal done.
Here are a few places AI voice agents actually win.
1. Start conversations with your inbound leads.
When a high volume of inbound leads hit, there simply aren’t enough hours in the day to have conversations with all of them.
Your prospects just want to talk to someone and they’d probably rather talk to an AI agent than wait for you to email back and forth before booking a meeting days later.
Think about it: If they’re not able to talk to you, they’ll talk to ChatGPT instead. One way or another, they’re probably going to have conversations with AI anyway. So, it might as well be your AI doing the talking.
2. Be the gatekeeper for your humans.
Sometimes the AI agent is the map, not the destination (and that's perfectly fine). AI voice agents can understand natural language and can get callers where they need to go faster and with less friction than a chatbot.
You can train them on any use cases that could use a gatekeeper: lead qualification, scheduling, issue triage, etc.
3. Tackle follow-up outreach.
Did a lead no-show a demo? Add them to a Workflow for your AI agent to follow-up, figure out what happened, and re-book them on your calendar. You can listen to the AI agent’s conversation later or read the notes from the call.
Your human sales reps don’t want to chase down no-shows. It wastes extra time they could be spending on better leads.
But an AI voice agent doesn’t care about the time spent doing grunt work on lukewarm leads—the agent just gets it done without complaining. 💪
4. Call customers to lock-in renewals.
Create an automated Workflow to flag annual deals at the 11-month mark. Have your AI voice agent call those customers to check in, see if they plan on renewing—and, if they’re at cancellation risk, the AI agent can hand off the call to an Account Manager.
Boom. You’ve just automated reducing churn from non-renewals.
5. Handle after-hours coverage.
As a customer, you know how annoying it is to see “Phone Hours: 8:00 am - 5:00 pm”… at 5:05 pm. What if there was another option?
Your website visitors should be able to submit a form at any time, day or night, and your AI voice agent should call them, qualify them, collect their information, log the call, and, here's the most important part: it should populate your CRM with lead data so you wake up to context you can act on right away.
