Summer 2024

With summer in full swing, we are excited to highlight some of our latest platform features and Admin Dashboard improvements designed to streamline supporting your organization!

Additional and Improved Reference Types

We’ve expanded to 38 reference types with the addition of 2 new reference type options: Standard and Product Label. Each type includes unique fields, such as the standard number, allowing you to capture specific metadata and cite it directly within your manuscript if needed.

Tip: When importing a CSV file that includes product labels, please ensure the content type is set to 'product_label' to ensure it is properly categorized.

We’re continuously expanding & refining our reference types to provide as robust metadata as possible. For example, we expanded the various dates associated with patents so you can see the full history:

We also improved the existing reference type ‘Poster’ by adding a call number field. This allows for better organization and retrieval of poster references, ensuring you can access the information you need more efficiently.

Web App Improvements

To make it easier to quickly rerun relevant searches, we expanded the recent search queries from 5 to 10.

The process for requesting reprints was simplified - rather than triggering another tab, you’ll see a popup within the library allowing you to easily submit and quickly return to your research.

Over the past year, we've focused on enhancing our exporting capabilities including the addition of Excel (xlsx) as a format and enabling customization for CSV exports. Following these updates, we refined our JSON, CSV, and XLSX formats to ensure they include comprehensive metadata, such as "created by," as they’re unrestricted by RIS and BibTeX limitations. Check out how easy it is to export the metadata from your library using the cogwheel.

Admin Dashboard Improvements

We’ve released a number of improvements to the Admin Dashboard with the goal of simplifying the ways you support your organization.

‘Book a Training Session’ Now Directs to Your Dedicated Client Engagement Manager

We've simplified the process for booking a training session by updating the ‘Book a Training Session’ quick link to direct to your dedicated Client Engagement Manager's scheduling page. Scheduling a training or time to connect has never been easier!

Expanded Logs for Subscriptions/Token Packages

For clients utilizing our document delivery service which require organization-wide subscriptions or token packages to be configured, we focused on expanding the access support logs (Admin Dashboard  > Holdings > Access Logs) so clients with subscription/token packages configured, can see a detailed view of article retrieval success, regardless of the authentication method used.

  • Easily identify if individuals are following the correct process (e.g., being on VPN, signed in with the publisher).
  • Detect systemic issues that may require your attention (e.g., depleted token packages, inadvertently removed IPs)

Please note: ReadCube integrates with your existing workflow and publisher subscriptions/token packages regardless if they’re configured within ReadCube so please do not worry if we don’t have them configured. Simply authenticate as you typically do and ReadCube allows you to retrieve the full text to add to your library.

Improved Deactivation Process

The streamlined the process for deactivating individuals who are no longer with the organization. Once deactivated, you can effortlessly copy the contents of their personal library to a main ‘Deactivated Users’ library, consolidating valuable research and ensuring no important information is lost.

Ability to Edit Group Names

For clients utilizing our Group Management to add colleagues to shared libraries, we’ve added the ability to edit a group name within the Admin Dashboard (Users > Groups), giving you more control and flexibility in managing.

If you’re not yet familiar with Groups, they offer a streamlined way to add a set of individuals—such as a division, department, or project team—to shared libraries. This feature simplifies managing access across multiple libraries by allowing you to apply group-based permissions efficiently. It’s available to all clients, so if you don’t see it in your Admin Dashboard, please contact your client engagement manager to activate it.

Chrome Manifest Update

In case you missed it, we’ve updated the ReadCube Chrome extension to Manifest version 3 (MV3), the newest standard for Chrome extensions. This upgrade offers better privacy controls, stricter permissions, and enhanced performance capabilities.

We hope these updates improve your experience with the platform & simplify your administrative tasks. As always, we value your feedback and are here to support you. If you have any questions or need assistance, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
