Hey DoSomething Members, Whether it was hurricanes, floods or wildfires, the environment felt like it was screaming at us all summer. More and more of us are feeling the direct impacts of climate change and hungry for solutions.
That said, preserving our public land—especially parkland, nature preserves and the like—is going to be key to solving the crisis. A new feature from the Wilderness Society with lots of cool maps, shows the positive impact that keeping polluters off of our public land can have on our environment—as well as the scary opposite.
In honor of our public lands, let’s get out and do our own part for the planet! Here are 7 volunteering ideas to help the environment.

So I just kept doing it.,” says DoSomething member Audrey, 18. “It’s important to me that we pick up cigarette buds because we don’t need to influence the younger generation on smoking and it’s bad to see people smoke because they can get lung cancer.,” says DoSomething member Iris, 18. “This campaign is important to me to help out my community as it is damaging to the environment.” says DoSomething member Rachel, 16.
Join Audrey, Iris, and Rachel in the movement for a better environment through our Get the Filter Out program.
Saturday is Public Lands Day! (Sept 25)
Our hero today is… John Kerry who is the first presidential envoy for climate. His job is to make sure that the global community is committed to solving climate change.
In case you missed it… Students took the streets on Monday in Washington D.C. to voice support for the Green New Deal. Organized by the national youth-led climate action group Sunrise Movement, the protest ended with a rally in front of the U.S. Capitol Building. All over the world today, people are taking part in the Global Climate Strike—actions are planned in many cities in the U.S. big and small. Here is a list of demands.
