Hey y’all,
Let's Do This, DoSomething
Complete What’s Missing: How the DoSomething Community is Educating Their Friends about Meningococcal Disease and Medical Misinformation Did you know that meningococcal disease is caused by a bacteria which can cause meningitis, a brain and spinal cord infection with serious health complications, blood stream infection, and death? Young people and college students living in dorms are at an increased risk of meningococcal disease, and with in-person schooling resuming, there is concern that outbreaks of meningococcal disease could reoccur. Meningococcal disease is preventable through vaccination, but many young people aren’t fully protected because they’ve only completed part of the vaccination series!
Although the COVID-19 pandemic has shown us the importance of public health, the prevalence of medical misinformation online is making it harder than ever for young people to tell the difference between fact and fiction when it comes to protecting their health.
Here’s Where You Fit in!
Educate your friends (and family) about meningococcal disease and why and how to get fully vaccinated and be fully informed about ways to spot medical misinformation. Join the DoSomething community educating their loved ones through our Complete What’s Missing program, created in partnership with the National Foundation for Infectious Diseases.
DoSomething member Annabella, 20, expressed a sentiment shared by many young people, “This campaign is important to me for many reasons...Even if you can touch one life just by sharing something such as this article (like I did) I feel like it's worth it to know you are helping someone protect themself and create a ripple effect of sharing important medical information.”
Encourage your friends to protect themselves against meningococcal disease and spot medical misinformation. You’ll be entered for the chance to win a $1,500 scholarship!
It’s almost National Grandparents Day… so celebrate the holiday on Saturday, August 21st by video chatting with your older adults.
In case you missed it…This August, on the 58th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have A Dream” speech, democracy advocates across the country are joining the historic March On for Voting Rights.
On Saturday, August 28th, the March On for Voting Rights will take place in Atlanta, Washington, D.C., Miami, Phoenix, Houston, and across the country as we protect voting rights and demand that Congress act by passing federal voting rights legislation.
Can we count on you to help us spread the word about the marches?
