Young people are leading the pack on important issues like climate justice, gun control, affordable education, and much more. We’re constantly impressed with the level of commitment that Gen-Z has as a collective.
Our quarterly #WeDidThat just went live and we’re celebrating everything our members have achieved together over the last few months. From donating 137,186 menstrual products through Power to the Period, to having tough conversations about mental health at our Vibe Check virtual event, our community is constantly outdoing itself with its commitment to civic engagement.
One of our triumphs this quarter was our community’s bipartisan effort to ask US Representatives to support gun safety laws. In light of last spring’s school shootings in Uvalde and Buffalo, 231 DoSomething members asked 200 representatives to act. Now that’s the way to transform empathy into action, ya’ll!
Switching gears to climate justice in the global community, Australian youth called out their government’s lack of action after unprecedented bushfires spread throughout the south-east part of the country. By demanding that politicians and public institutions enact policy to protect the environment, the teens involved in the protest created a domino effect in other countries around the world, encouraging more youth to speak out against government inaction on climate change.
From our DoSomething community to others around the world, we know that collective actions like these create a ripple effect. That’s why we’re always looking outside of our own networks to see how youth activists around the world are speaking up and taking action. We hope this quarter’s #WeDidThat can inspire action in this way, too. Let’s Do This! DoSomething |

Voting is another way to participate in activism around the issues that you care about that will have an impact for years to come. So, you’re registered to vote right?
We’re so pumped to hear from our Your Plan, Your Vote participants about their voting plans and the issues they’re voting on. We know that the climate crisis, gun control, affordable education, and other key issues are on a lot of your minds. All of these are on the ballot this midterm election cycle, so voting for a better future is within our reach.
Here’s what some of our members had to say: |
Azahna L., 18: “I very strongly believe that taking immediate action to slow the climate crisis and protect underserved groups is something that needs to be done NOW, and cannot wait any longer. My vote truly does matter, and if I want the future and health of our people and planet to be the best it can be I must start voting right away: which means voting this November!” |
Gabby G., 19: “I think we are in need of some positive changes this election. The world is going through some scary things, and I want to do as much as I can to make an impact, no matter how small it may be. I believe that I can also impact those around me to join me and change the course of our country in a positive way.” |
Hadja M, 17:“I'm a huge advocate of anything that involves inclusion. As a senior, one of my main goals this year is to show how teamwork is more than just talking to your classmates but your peers as well. . teamwork includes those who are not as outgoing, but still enjoy some company. This campaign is important to me because not only does it spread kindness throughout my school, but it also allows me to form bonds with underclassmen who could learn from my experiences as a senior who has been in the exact same position.”
Join us in our Your Plan, Your Vote program, where you’ll register to vote, make your voting plan, and then share with us why it’s important for you to vote this November. Pssst, you’ll also be entered to earn a $1,000 scholarship when you complete the action! |
