Happy Tuesday, y’all
We know that every great innovator had to start somewhere. Before he discovered over 300 (!) uses for peanuts, American scientist George Washington Carver studied art and piano in hopes of becoming a teacher. And before Marie Curie fundamentally changed our understanding of radioactivity, she worked as a tutor and governess, spending her free time reading about chemistry, physics, and math. Even the modern-day innovator had to start somewhere. We all know the notorious story of Steve Jobs launching Apple out of his garage in Los Altos, California!
And, while these STEM innovators all made a name for themselves, the thing that ties them together is their drive, determination, and passion for learning and experimenting - the perfect combination for success in pursuing careers in STEM. We believe that there is a place for everyone in STEM regardless of your identity. Let’s work together to find your perfect spot in STEM.
Take our STEM Works For Me Quiz today and discover the perfect STEM career for you all based on your passions, interests, and personality. And bonus…if you take the quiz before Friday, June 3, and share it with your friends, you’ll have the opportunity to earn a $2,500 scholarship. Let’s kickstart your innovation journey today!

Innovators in the making! These DoSomething members have taken our quiz and are on the path to pursuing a career in STEM. Check out what they had to say: |
“Throughout my high school years, I spent a long time stressing over what careers I wanted to enter and did much research on what types of STEM jobs are out in the world. It caused a lot of stress for me but after taking this short and simple test, I realize something like this could have helped me long ago so I'm happy to share it with friends. It even has valuable information that you don't initially think of when looking for a job as someone so inexperienced in the field, like how much you'd want to work with others and the salary. I love that this campaign makes it easy and enjoyable to educate about job options in a field so huge.” said DoSomething member Alexandra M., 18.
|
DoSomething member Prakash K., 18 said, “This campaign is important to me because it is helping to advance diversity among underrepresented groups in STEM. STEM should be accessible to everyone, and I am glad that the campaign is supporting this.” |
“This campaign allows me to discover my interests in the field of STEM and what careers in the science field align with my personality, goals, and interests,” said DoSomething member Sydney T., 17. “For me personally, since I am a young girl trying to figure out what I want to be in life, this showed me there are opportunities in STEM no matter your gender or your background. Learning about this broadens my interest and gives me confidence knowing that I can be involved in STEM too.”
Join Alexandra, Prakash, and Sydney today and sign up to take the quiz. We promise STEM works for YOU! |
We’d like to introduce…Lucy Ivey, the 18-year-old who founded a digital and in-print magazine (during a pandemic we might add!) meant to feature Gen Z's creativity and resilience. Bravo, Lucy! ICYMI… TIME Magazine just released their 100 Most Influential People of 2022. From Adele and Zendaya to Ketanji Brown Jackson and Questlove, this list is no joke!
Thursday (May 26) is National Paper Airplane Day. The farthest flight for a paper airplane was broken just last month, achieving a new jaw-dropping distance of 252ft! Can you beat it?! Grab a piece of paper and give it a try.
