Hiya DoSomething Members,
Looking for the perfect workout routine? Consider our favorite form of exercise: exercising your right to vote. Today is the first Tuesday following the first Monday of November, which means it is officially ELECTION DAY! And while only a few hours left, there is still time for you to get out and make your voices heard!
Here at DoSomething, we encourage all eligible, registered voters to take advantage of this awesome civil right and vote! And if you’re not yet eligible to vote, consider encouraging your friends and family to do so. In 2020, young voters turned out in record numbers, driven by issues like climate change, mental health, and racial justice. You LIT-ER-ALLY have the power to help create a better future!
And while advocacy at the polls is ah-mazing, don’t forget you can take action right now to make changes in your community. Join our It’s (NOT) All in Your Head campaign to help bring free and diverse mental health resources to schools and communities around the country. You’ll even enter for a chance to win a $2,500 scholarship.
Keeping our democracy alive AND ensuring mental health resources for all? We’re in! Let’s Do This! DoSomething
These DoSomething members are advocating for and promoting more access to mental health resources in their schools:
Everyone, but especially young people, is experiencing pandemic-related trauma. As students return to school, they need mental health support more than ever. Unfortunately, there is a lack of adequate mental health resources in schools for students of color and low-income students in under-resource communities.
That’s why DoSomething members are working to share mental health resource posters in their school and community to remind friends and family it’s okay to not be okay. And it’s even more okay to ask for help. Here are just a few of our favorites from the It’s (NOT) All In Your Head program: “As a leader of the mental health group on campus, I believe that showing students the research and resources for mental health is essential to success. Ensuring everyone is having the ideal college experience and feeling as if they are a part of the community is essential to the college culture,” says DoSomething Member Camrie, 19. “The climate of the world is controversial but ensuring that the student feels safe, included, and supported mentally is a key factor to the mental health campaign and this campaign specifically.” “The pandemic was a real turning point for many people. Feelings of isolation and abandonment started to set in. It is important to spread awareness and let those who are struggling know there is always help,” says DoSomething Member Monica, 17. “Mental health is equally as important as physical health. Campaigning to advocate for this cause is very important.”
Join Carmie and Monica in reminding your peers that It’s (NOT) All in Your Head and there are resources to help.
