Hey there and Happy Women’s History Month! 🎉
Here at DoSomething, we love celebrating women’s history, achievements, and power ALL year long! For too long, women were kept out of spaces predominantly occupied by men, or had their ideas, contributions, and knowledge minimized. This has been especially true in STEM where women are STILL underrepresented today–even though we know that STEM is for everyone!
Want to learn more about women in STEM? Join DoSomething and Girls Who Code as we come together for the What? Like It’s Hard?: Women in STEM panel discussion on March 10 from 6–7pm EST. You’ll have the opportunity to hear from 4 trailblazing women in the field and learn more about STEM career possibilities. Plus, you’ll get the chance to play games programmed by Girls Who Code’s high school Club Members!
Our panelists include:
Karina Popovich, Head of Impact at Makers for Change; Founder of INERTIA; Junior at Cornell University; IF/THEN Ambassador (& a GWC Alumni!)
Emmy Chavez, Web Designer Specializing in Financial Technology, Blockchain, & Cryptocurrencies
Fernanda Sulantay, Ph.D. Student at Yale studying Chemical Engineering
Katie Crane, Senior Software Engineer at DoSomething (began as a Backend Developer Intern in 2015!)
Don’t miss out on this incredible opportunity! We hope you’ll join us and help us celebrate women in STEM! Let’s Do This! DoSomething

Find out why some of our DoSomething members took part in our STEM Works For Me campaign and what they have to say about the importance of women in STEM! “This campaign is important to me because I am a woman in STEM at my college where we predominantly have men in the programs. I think it's so important that women have an equal chance at research within the field as the men do, and I hope that engaging in campaigns like this will help raise awareness for the need for more female presence in STEM.” said DoSomething member Isabella G., 18. DoSomething member Mayra M., 18 said, “The STEM WORKS FOR ME campaign is important to me because it empowers the voices of our youth! As a first-generation female student, I want to show others that we can break the stereotypes that surround us and obtain higher education in STEM careers. There are many careers I wasn't aware of that we all have an opportunity to study!” “This campaign is important because I am actually doing a master's program in Bioinformatics and I believe that as a woman in the STEM field it’s important to share the message to more women and encourage them to want to change the world, said DoSomething member Irazema G., 25.
Join Isabella, Mayra, and Irazema to see how STEM works for you!
Let’s talk about… taking care of yourself. We know a lot is going on in the world. This is our reminder to you to not be afraid to ask for help when you're feeling down, spend time outdoors, and surround yourself with people you love.
Today we are inspired by… Ketanji Brown Jackson who has been nominated to be the first Black woman to sit on the Supreme Court.
