Hiya, DoSomething members:
Happy Black History Month! There is so much to celebrate, including the accomplishments of Black individuals in STEM! Folks like Dr. Gladys West who invented the technology to help create the GPS, or Katherine Johnson who was a NASA mathematician who helped make space exploration possible.
These two Black women followed their passions and made a lasting impact through their world-changing work, despite the lack of diversity in STEM. Let’s DoSomething to diversify the STEM sector. For too long, women and people of color have found themselves underrepresented in STEM, but it’s time to change that! STEM is for EVERYONE and there are endless opportunities!
In commemoration of Black History Month, we're celebrating the heroes that came before, and the ones that are still to come! Be your own STEM superhero! Take our quiz today to learn what STEM career best suits you, and help diversify the field. You'll even be considered for a $2,500 scholarship. Score! Let’s Do This! DoSomething
And while you’re helping diversify STEM, you can also follow your passion
Take our quiz to find out about the opportunities available to you in STEM! Our quiz can help you find a career that goes beyond working in a lab coat while you get paid to follow your passion and do world-changing work!
Check out these DoSomething members who have taken our quiz to learn what area of STEM best suits them–all based on their interests, passions, and personality through our STEM Works For Me campaign! “My mother is a woman of color in STEM, and I admire her hard work in the field,” said DoSomething member Ava, 18. “She works hard to help people in the hospital and I would love to do something similar.” “This campaign is important to me because it allows for me to spread awareness about STEM jobs and it proves anyone can have a job in STEM since there is such a large variety of job types available,” said DoSomething member Hannah, 19. “As a 1st generation college student, it is important for me that minorities and people of color are represented in STEM, said DoSomething member Maisa, 19. This allows students and young teens to learn more about STEM through an interactive questionnaire.” As DoSomething member Aidan, 17 said, “This campaign is important to me because I find it so great that there are hundreds of STEM career paths I didn't even know about before.”
Join Ava, Hannah, Maisa, and Aidan in finding your STEM passion and helping to diversify the field!
