Reimagining Stories and Video on LinkedIn

What's Next for LinkedIn Stories and Video

One of the things I love most about my job is the ability to constantly experiment to find new ways to improve your experience on LinkedIn. In any given month, we launch and test hundreds of new features and you give us feedback.

We introduced Stories last year as a fun and casual way to share quick video updates. We've learned a ton. Now, we're taking those learnings to evolve the Stories format into a reimagined video experience across LinkedIn that’s even richer and more conversational. We want to embrace mixed media and creative tools of Stories in a consistent way across our platform, while working to integrate it more tightly with your professional identity.

As part of this change, we’ll remove the current Stories experience by the end of September, as we work on the new experience.

To those of you who jumped into Stories to share bite-sized glimpses of video content in a professional context, thank you. Stories provided an easy way for you to share insights, ask for help, and react to news and industry updates.

But we also learned that you want something different on LinkedIn:

  • You wish videos could live on your profile, not disappear. In developing Stories, we assumed people wouldn’t want informal videos attached to their profile, and that ephemerality would reduce barriers that people feel about posting. Turns out, you want to create lasting videos that tell your professional story in a more personal way and that showcase both your personality and expertise.
  • You want more creative tools to make engaging videos. With Stories, members could use Stickers and “The Question of the Day” prompts to make videos more creative and engaging. But you want even more ways to spruce up those videos in a professional context, and you want to do so across LinkedIn.

We’d love to hear more from you about video on LinkedIn in the comments. And we’ll keep working to create an ever better experience for you.

The stories were great. It was a great opportunity to see people in action (at work) instead of a default picture in the profile. We loved them. We wanted to be educated while being entertained. was very educational and it was more personal. We look forward to bringing it back on steroids. Keep the story and add other things to it. But to remove completely? It should have been kept, with adding changes. We look forward to the change Liz Li . Thank you!!

It doesn’t make sense for LinkedIn to cancel the Company-Page story feature until you have the Story-Alternative “new experience” in place and functioning properly.

I just created a Profile Story but was alarmed to discover the sound doesn’t play, and there’s no easy way to view it. It appears only when you first look at my profile, so if you miss it or want to replay it, there is no button to play it. Why?
