Hey y’all!
The countdown to Election Day is upon us, but considering over 4 million Americans have already voted early, the election has very much begun.
As we close in on November 3, we’ll be with you every step of the way, answering your questions and getting you prepped. For example, if you’re in need of a one-stop voting shop for registering, researching candidates, and making a voting plan, we’ve got you. Or if you’re under 18 or ineligible to vote and still want to make an impact, we’ve got you too. And if you’re looking for 10 straight hours of the “LeBron James” kid, yep, we’ve very much got you too.
Let’s Do This, Ben, Editor-in-chief
We Are The Voters
Young people (Gen Z + millennials) make up a full third of the voting population in 2020, the single largest voting bloc. Your vote won’t just help decide the next leaders. Your vote will help decide the next gun safety bill for your state. The next climate change policy for your community. The next affordable education plan for your school. This election isn’t just about the candidates. It’s about you, your vote, and your power to create a better future. “For myself and a large majority of my peers this would be our first time voting,” says DoSomething member Joshua, 18, who made his voting plan through the Your Plan, Your Vote campaign. “It’s about being a part of a change for me that drives me to want to vote. Although our voices may be small alone, together we can be heard!” “My hope is to make a difference by standing for what I believe in, and not being a part of the silent majority,” says DoSomething member Lauren, who’s voting IRL this year. “The only way to enact change and fight for what is right is to raise my voice, and this is how I will do so.” Sign up for the Your Plan, Your Vote campaign, where you can get registered, see your sample ballot, and make your voting plan, whether you’re voting in-person or by mail.
This summer’s Black Lives Matter protests have catalyzed historic progress for racial justice, and young voters are primed to make their voices heard at the polls. Protest, advocacy, and voting are powerful ways to effect change, and so is conversation -- changing hearts and minds within your home and community.
That’s why DoSomething member Nonyerem, 16, joined 64,773 members who have signed up for our Disrupt Racism campaign, using our guides to start conversations about anti-racism and inspiring friends to take action in their communities.
"I believe that this is a situation that needs to be different,” Nonyerem says, “so I've committed myself to working towards the advancement of this cause for as long as necessary.”
